Whale season has ended

14 june to 3 november 2019. It has been a great season. The boat guys have done all they can to share show the whales to the crews that made the trip over to Las Perlas.

There are still to mothers who have decided to hang out a bit more unitlll they are certain their calf are ready to go. A few males seem to be waiting for them to accompany them down south. We heard there is a still a larger pod in the southern Perlas so maybe they all make the journey down south together receiving the needed protection against the orcas on the way.

Cigars

Our favorite cigar maker is not coming back to Panama but the heritage goes on. Soon we can visit the workshop were his heritage continues. In the meantime custom cigars or their clasic’s can still be ordered. He now spends his days on a bench in front of his house in Havana, walking distance from the Malecon and the Melia Hotel. If you want stories and even more stories pay him a visit. (we have contact details) and if you wonder what to bring him, its Marlboro. He does not smoke cigars!!!!

Caves in Bayano

Slowly the level of the lake is rising. soon we can offer full caves excursions. December to March are the best months for this adventure. In general the crocodiles have left the caves and are replaced by all other animals escaping the heat. We have encountered scorpions, snakes, frogs, armadillos, iguanas, raccoons, spiders of all sorts, snails, salamanders, eels and all sort of insects. You are guaranteed to run into lots of bats. Prepare your self for this trip by bringing good outdoor shoes and if you have good headlight bring it (we supply standard lights). Depending on the group the trip can take up to 3 hours. Outside the cave there are some great rock pools to take a swim in.

The last few days we have had many encounters with jumping baby whales. We think beside it being fun it shows the mothers they are near to beeing ready for the long voyage south in November.
